musician bios

Kathy Farmer  is principal flutist of the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and piccoloist of the Georgia Philharmonic. She teaches flute at Georgia Perimeter College and Greater Atlanta Christian School as well as maintaining a home studio. She toured France and Austria with the American Flute Orchestra and performs with the National Flute Choir in Charlotte, North Carolina, and for 16 years has been selected to the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir. Kathy is the director of the Flute Choir of Atlanta, founder and director of the Atlanta Flute Ensemble, a past president of the Atlanta Flute Club, and the flute orchestra coordinator for the NFA. She is also a member of the Papageno flute quartet, Perimeter Flutes, and Windstrum, a flute/guitar duo.

Teresa Lind  majored in applied music in college – where she played with the wind ensemble and was briefly the principal flute with the Macon Chamber Orchestra – and has studied with Paul Brittain. She played 2nd flute with the Cobb Symphony Orchestra for 17 seasons and in her church orchestra. Teresa is a paralegal for a boutique law firm specializing in commercial title insurance.

Paul Scherr  began his musical career at age 2 and has studied piano with Selmar Jansen of Carnegie Mellon University, clavichord with Bernard Brauchli at the New England Conservatory of Music, and flute with Ethan Stang of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He is now a student of Christina Smith (principal flute of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra). Paul is a member of the Peachtree Symphonic Winds and Band of America and has also performed with the DeKalb Choral Guild. He is the president-elect of the Atlanta Flute Club. Paul is an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Kate Siegel  has played 1st flute in the Callanwolde Concert Band and with the Callanwolde Woodwind Quintet. She performed in school bands and orchestras until entering college and toured with the Milwaukee Pops Youth Band in Mexico and at central Florida theme parks. A piccolo soloist in high school, she now prefers the alto flute. Kate is a freelance creative director and editor.

 

The members of Vox Flutes met in and perform with the Flute Choir of Atlanta, which has appeared at several National Flute Association annual conventions and recorded the CD Celebration.
